Assessment and Treatment
Psychotherapy Assessment
The main aim of psychological therapy is to help you to understand yourself better. This is done by carefully exploring the past and how this may be influencing your present experiences, supporting you to make positive changes. This is not an easy process but can lead to better emotional and mental health.
Effective treatment starts with an effective assessment. Each client is unique and will present with a range of symptoms that are experienced in different situations and contexts. Whilst we always offer evidenced based intervention, this commonly involves combining approaches to tailor treatment to the individual client to improve their outcomes.

Dynamic Therapy
Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy is a way of working that is exploratory and uses the human relationship with a therapist to gain a deep understanding of emotional and psychological processes, helping to resolve deeper rooted problems with anxiety and depression.
This is typically a mid-longer term therapy that is helpful for problems relating to early life experiences, sexual dysfunction, persisting problems in relationships, recurring depression and social anxiety where brief therapies such as CBT have not proven to be helpful.

CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is typically a highly structured short-mid term therapy mostly focussing on breaking current cycles of thoughts, feelings, and actions.
CBT can help with problems such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic and Health Anxiety, or where someone requires short term symptom management.
Trauma-focussed CBT has a good evidence base for treating single event trauma (PTSD).

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is an advanced psychotherapy that uses bilateral eye movements, audio and tactile stimulation to aid the re-processing of traumatic memories that still impact significantly in the present.
It is particularly effective in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD (including multiple traumatic events) as well as other persistent / chronic anxiety based problems.
